What we are about

"Chessmates.buzz" is a small organization founded by friends who fell in love with the game as kids. To them chess was very special, it was so much more than just a game.

They grew up to be Masters and remembered how much the game had helped them. Not in school or at math like many like to believe, but rather how it helped them be brave and understand that everything we do in chess, like in life… is a choice and the choices we make … make a difference.

And then one day, they realized that they can also make a difference in the lives of others.

What started as simply being a mentor to one small child with special needs, my dearest student of over 10 years “Derek Chen”, bloomed into the most rewarding journey that was never expected. Our mission is actually not prioritizing success in chess but rather to guide our students towards the pursuit of a responsible life, one which encompasses a true sense of fulfillment. Over the years, and even now … our students range from Absolute Beginners to Masters. Kids who have never competed in a single tournament to students who have won multiple NY State and even National High School Championships.

We currently teach (3) in person chess classes in the Village of Ardsley NY on (2)Tuesdays & (1)Thursdays and conduct 6 Online group classes online via Zoom and Chess.com on (2)Mondays, (2)Wednesdays and (2)Fridays along with our weekend chess tournaments every early evening on Sundays. All of our classes are structured based on skill levels.
