Pricing and Scholarships
"Chessmates.buzz" does not want to deter any of our students from being able to participate in any of our activities simply due to financial incapabilities caused by the current times. Our priority is to ensure that our students can continue to take part in all of the activities they wish to attend, especially during these times when many kids may not get the chance to interact with their friends/peers as they normally would. We only ask all who value the things we do, to make their appropriate efforts in helping us continue to provide our services.

Frequently Asked Questions
1.How long will chessmates continue to teach online?
We hope to conduct After School Chess Classes throughout the duration of the "Social Distancing" period, future classes beyond that point are yet to be determined.
2.My child really enjoys playing chess, how can I help him/her improve? Are there any books, computer programs you can reccomend?
If a child enjoys playing, it is impossible not to improve. However, the degree and quality of improvement will vary based on the approach. There is a plethora of books and computer programs written on every subject and chess is no different. We are happy to point any students in the right direction based on their age, reading levels, style of play and the area in which they seek improvement.
3.Should I consider Private Lessons for my child and how are the private lessons conducted?
Private lessons are generally a very expensive luxury and in most cases not necessary. However, they are one of the best if not easily the best way to improve at anything. The simple 1 on 1 setting allows to accelerate learning any material and have it be understood more clearly simply due to the individual attention. They are the most beneficial to special needs children as the individual attention can help bridge many gaps in a child's learning, from not only addressing chess skills but helping recognize and address the underlying tendencies that lead to poor performances and impulsive behaviors. Chess in many ways can be a reflection of a person's general approach and how they make decisions in other aspects of life...the simple notion of how a child quickly moves in a given position before evaluating the consequences of their actions in comparison to looking at all good options before choosing the best one is a small example of learning to analyze and evaluate. Additional abstract, analytical, and pragmatic thinking skills are also stressed on a much higher level in 1 on 1 settings. Private lessons are conducted at a mutaully convenient time between the student and their teacher any day/night of the week.
For any students interested in Private 1 on 1 lessons, please contact Mr.Kelly or Mr.Kan directly.
4.Do we offer a Sibling Discounts?
As previously addressed in "Pricing and Scholarships" we are happy to accomodate all budgets and we do not even mandate a payment for any child to attend our group classes, you may pay whatever fee best suits your budgets. This includes submitting a full payment for just one child, all children or to simply not pay any fees at all. Our objective is to ensure the consistent participation of all of our students and their siblings. We are happy to allow all siblings and students who want to be a part of our classes to attend the weekly classes and weekend chess tournaments without feeling financially restrained.
5.We are grateful for everything Chessmates has done and we want to ensure their longevity, how can we contribute to make this possible?
Our scholarship programs are designed to allow all of our students to continue to participate in our classes, and are a reflection of our sincerest efforts to help all of our students enjoy learning and stay connected during these times, however in order to sustain our current efforts and continue to provide the services in the manner that we do, i.e. daily classes and weekend chess tournaments with various prizes etc, we do hope all who value our services will make thier appropriate efforts to help us continue to provide our services.
6.Do we teach children with special needs?
A child... is a child. We are happy to teach all children that want to be a part of our groups, regardless of their race, religion, economical backgrounds or anything else that is beyond their control in life. This includes any children with with special needs. Teaching a child with autism over the course of 10 years was actually the inspiration behind the creation of "Chessmates.buzz". We currently teach many children with special needs privately and in group classes as well. We are happy to evalute the specific needs and recommend the best approach for your child.
